The Field of Fire

The Field of Fire is a clearing deep in the great pine forest, known to locals as a place best left alone: an expanse burned utterly black, yet still warm to the touch - as though the blaze that scoured it had gone out only moments before, though no one can say when, or whether, it ever truly burned.
