The Great Dam incident (also known as the Great Dam Blow) was a catastrophic event that occurred in 1300, leading to the destruction of the Kingdom of Swadia and the creation of the deadly Amasyan Swamp.
The Fall of Swadia
The Kingdom of Swadia, with its capital at Kios, ruled the fertile Amasyan Valley for centuries. By the late 13th century, swelling tensions erupted into open conflict as the Lexalians launched a massive invasion into Swadia territory. The Lexalian forces systematically pushed Swadia’s defenders back to Kios itself.
When the siege of Kios became untenable, King Mithridates and his son Atraksias turned to extreme measures. They discussed breaching the great dams situated near the city to flood the Lexalian camp, knowing it would ravage their own city and lands as well. Historians still fiercely debate what happened on that fateful day: whether the dam’s breach was a tragic accident occurring amidst the combat, a final desperate act ordered by Mithridates, or deliberate sabotage from the Lexalians.
Aftermath
The result, however, was undeniable. The unleashed floodwaters erased Kios and the Lexalian camps alike. The waters never receded, drowning the once-fertile Amasyan Valley permanently beneath stagnant, poisoned waters, forming the Amasyan Swamp. Swadia as a sovereign kingdom ceased to exist, and the region eventually passed into Lexalian-controlled territory.
