Ellania is one of the most sought-after assassins and sellswords in the underworld of the whole world - known as one who will take any job for fair pay without batting an eye, blessed (or cursed) by the whispering favor of the Lady of Luck.
Biography
Ellania was born to a minor noble house of the Hub and raised in luxury, never knowing hunger or want - yet from a very young age she felt something missing: a thrill. She found a fascination with seeing how living things worked from the inside, first squirrels, then the estate’s dogs, and by thirteen the stable-boys no longer quite satisfied the urge either. She chased the feeling through drink, smoke, drugs, and pleasures of the flesh, and none of them touched the place she was reaching for.
At twenty she discovered gambling - not the idle games of the manor, but the kind in gambling-dens where every coin-flip is fateful and a single drawn card can overturn a whole life. The moment she won her first dice game, she knew: this was what she had been missing. She was a poor gambler at first, and quickly ran up debts she had no means to pay - so she arranged to inherit, and her parents and sisters lost their lives sooner than expected. She did not agonize over it; she simply needed more money to keep playing.
When she had at last lost everything, she wagered her own life on a coin-flip - and won, and in winning drew the attention of the Lady of Luck, who began to whisper in her ear. Guided by that patron, Ellania became one of the most renowned killers and warriors of the underworld, wanted in every nation, having killed more people than she can count. None of it troubles her: she feels the hollow in her fill with every toss of the coin, and that is all she needs.
Personality
Ellania sees her whole life as one great game of chance, and relishes the danger of a possible loss. She does not enjoy losing, and will do what she can to better her odds - but the need for the thrill drives her more than greed or ego. Money, fame, and reputation are all just tokens to raise the stakes of her next wager. Her addiction is also her great weakness: if a gamble is interesting enough she may take it even against her own interests, and she is manipulative and a habitual liar who works poorly with others, often putting her appetite for an exciting bet ahead of the shared goal. An adrenaline-junkie to the core, she throws herself into needless danger for the “gamble” of her own life.
