The Crystal Caverns are a fabled geological wonder hidden deep within the treacherous peaks of the Aeggheimr Mountains. Said to be a subterranean lattice of shimmering, luminescent crystals that predate recorded history, the caverns are frequently debated within academic geological departments as an unparalleled natural marvel—and perhaps a wellspring of ancient, primordial magic.

History and Significance

For generations, the exact location of the caverns has eluded mapmakers. The native Firbolg groves and Goliath tribes of the Aeggheimr range have long held their own mythologies regarding the deep caves, sometimes acting as sparse guides for outsiders. To them, the crystalline structures are considered a sacred geological anchor for the mountains.

The caverns have proved famously hard to reach. One of the most recorded attempts was the 1528 expedition joined by the famed archaeologist Corian Ballard. Undertaken in collaboration with local Firbolg and Goliath guides, the expedition was ultimately thwarted by the punishing environment and never managed to actually enter the caverns. Nevertheless, the attempt forged strong ties between the academic world and the mountain tribes, laying the groundwork for theories regarding the deep interconnectedness of giant-kin races.
