The Aeggheimr Mountains (also written the Aghaimer Ranges) are a great northern range near the Frigid Straits. Their groves and high valleys are home to Firbolg and Goliath peoples.
History and The Bergmaal Nomads
Long ago, the range was the haunt of the long-vanished nomad tribe known as the Bergmaal (see Ancient Cultures of Thelemar). The Bergmaal were legendary for living in the steepest ravines, refusing to descend, and using the mountain echoes to weave deep, inhuman songs that resonated across the range. Few written records exist of them today, though bards still try in vain to imitate their mountain melodies.
Hidden somewhere among the peaks lies the fabled Crystal Caverns.
The Monastery of the Northern Wind
Perched precariously upon one of Aeggheimr’s tallest peaks is an ancient monk monastery. Its history is entwined with the fading of the Bergmaal; some whisper that the monastery’s founders learned their harsh meditation techniques and endurance by imitating the nomadic lifestyle of truth-seeking. The notable monks here commit to lives of brutal ascension, using the biting gales and isolated heights to temper their bodies against extreme pain.
A Spark of the New World
It was from a vantage in these mountains, gazing out at the seemingly endless ocean, that the archaeologist Corian Ballard first conceived that a land - and life - might lie on the far side of the sea. This profound realization would eventually crystallize into his The New World Theory.
