Professor Alistair Finch is a historian of the Empire, remembered less for his scholarship than for the most famously wasted question ever put to a flard.

The Lost Coronation

Inebriated and to win a bet, Finch approached a flard and asked it what meals the last Emperor used to eat. The flard recited the entire menu flawlessly - knowledge that existed in no living mind - and so, despite the folly, his question helped lay to rest the theory that flard merely read nearby minds. He was effectively forced afterward to justify the incident in a published monograph, A Wager of Ages: The Imperial Palate.
