Alysodeménos

Alysodeménos - “Al” - is a minotaur rebel warlord and the leader of the Horned Liberators. The Theocracy has set a bounty of 100,000 gold on his head for murder and conspiracy to revolt.

Biography

Al was born in the depths of the great colosseum of Kepostheon, the Theocracy’s capital. He survived hundreds of bouts to become one of the most renowned gladiator-minotaurs in the land - and all the while a fury smoldered in him at the degradation he and his kind were made to suffer. When he tried to lead a slave revolt, he was punished by being forced to fight his own wife and son in an exhibition match. He refused; they were executed before his eyes. The grief and rage of that day forged magical chains from his very fury, and with them he broke free of the arena, swearing to do anything - anything - to free the enslaved minotaurs and avenge them.

For years Al raided slave caravans and rallied minotaurs to the cause. Over time his creed sharpened from mere abolition into minotaur supremacy - the rule of his people over all other races. He founded the Horned Liberators and has led them ever since, commanding raids the length and breadth of the Theocracy. He has burned villages, desecrated temples, toppled whole colosseums with people still inside, and enslaved Children - to him the ultimate punishment for those who once enslaved his kind.

Yet he feels he is failing his goal. He knows the Theocracy never gave his rebellion the gravity it deserved while the War of Horrors raged - and that as the great war winds down, the army will soon turn its full attention to crushing him. So he has begun searching for something, anything, that will let him leave the board with his people’s hand on top.

Personality

Al believes utterly in the principle that the strong rule, and that minotaurs are first among the strong. He blames their fall on the gods - chiefly Poseidon, who by legend made the minotaurs and then abandoned them - and burns with hatred for the gods as much as for slavers. He sees the world in stark terms: the weak deserve their fate, and any who are weak and not minotaur are, to him, little better than beasts to be slaughtered without guilt.

He is sharp and clever, but the very rage that gives him power clouds his judgment; he answers condescension with violence and underestimates his foes. Accustomed to command, he does not work well under anyone but himself. For all that, he genuinely believes in his cause, and would gladly sacrifice himself if he thought it would best serve his people.
