Sutiras came from no academy and no noble house - he grew up beside the Jyoti hills and worked the lead mines as a young man, watching sickness and danger claim those around him. When the three-front Maelstrom War (“the Whirlpool”) threatened to swallow young Swadia, he enlisted and rose swiftly on raw talent for strategy and a charisma that pulled people after him.

His genius was to turn the war underground. Drawing on a miner’s intimacy with tunnels, he abandoned static defense for asymmetric warfare - luring the enemy deep into prepared traps, ambushing through dug networks beneath the cities and villages, and funneling superior numbers into killing-grounds. With the help of his three brilliant sons he reforged Swadia’s army, and in 1011 the Maelstrom broke on its makers. Sutiras became a national hero.

Reign

Groomed as heir by Melontikos, Sutiras took the throne in 1018 and reigned to 1091. He expanded the realm, finally destroyed the demon-worshipping Ferzakati tribe, paved roads, and grew Kios into a famed center of trade. He founded the northern city of Raven (1014), where his three sons established the alchemical society called the Trismagistus. He reinforced the city walls until they were thought impregnable, and was known to use ancient symbols and writings as ciphers and as banners to inspire his troops.
