The Violent Past
The Violent Past is a theory holding that the common notion of the Empire as a utopian civilisation is mistaken - that it had its full share of wars, battles, and troubles. Its evidence is drawn from the many magical items dated to the Empire’s time that seem to have no purpose but war and destruction.
The theory was not Corian Ballard’s own - its chief proponent is the widely known mad sorcerer Emilius Grandet (see Amilius Grandt), a former member of the original Fiend Hunters - but the archaeologist regards it as highly possible all the same.
