Atem was the first pharaoh of ancient Jaknia, a figure of the deep past around whom much legend has gathered. For centuries a great pyramid at the edge of the Black Desert was held to be his tomb and drew excavation after excavation - until the archaeologist Corian Ballard discovered, in 1532, that the tomb in fact belonged not to Atem but to his head magician Mahad. Where Atem himself lies remains unknown.
