The Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh
The Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh
Type Occult cult Patron The Black Pharaoh (an aspect of Nyarlathotep) Seat The Egyptian south
The Brotherhood of the Black Pharaoh is a cult rooted in the Egyptian south, devoted to serving the dread power known as Nyarlathotep in his aspect as the Black Pharaoh.
It was into this brotherhood that the adventuring band the Red Hand was assimilated, persuaded to convert by their charismatic leader James - and with them, the wanderer Elizabeth, who worshipped the elder god for a time. Her chapter of the Brotherhood was eventually destroyed by the rival Brothers of the Yellow Sign, scattering its members.
The Brotherhood’s hunger for power has driven it deep into the deserts in search of relics. In 1532 a cell led by James delved the tomb in the Black Desert - long mistaken for that of the pharaoh Atem, but in truth that of his head magician Mahad - seeking the Golden Skull, an artifact said to open gateways to other planes, by which they hoped to reach their eldritch master. The archaeologist Corian Ballard, knowing the tomb’s traps, foiled them.
