Dalil

Dalil was the founder and first leader of the mercenary company Gilded Requiem, which he raised in 1487 at the age of twenty. A pragmatic but principled captain - “we are not a charity, but charity is a virtue to be exercised from time to time” - he built a simple war-profiteering band into one of the most respected companies in the world.

It was Dalil who found the orphaned Gabriel in the ruins of his village and raised him as a son, and Dalil who later led the assault that freed Gabriel from the cultists who had made him a Horror - and who never gave up on him afterward. He held the company together through the War of Horrors, balancing paid contracts with poorly-paid work that aided the war.

In 1537, on a scouting operation gone wrong, Dalil fell to an ambush of Horrors and their summoned fiends. By his religious beliefs he could not be raised, and his death shook Gilded Requiem to its core - scattering much of its membership and leaving Gabriel the reluctant leader of a company reduced to five.
