Kastor is a fanatical cultist who serves Kronos, lord of the Titans and of time, and seeks to free his master from his prison in Tartarus. He is the figure around whom the cult called the Brotherhood of Time has gathered.
Biography
Kastor grew up in a small village in the southern reaches of the Theocracy, near the Clairnian border - a curious, mischievous boy entranced by tales of ancient battles and the war of the gods against the Titans, and by greater questions still, of the nature of the cosmos, of time, and of magic. One day the village woodcutters found a strange artifact in the forest: a metal hourglass that turned and ran at a different speed for everyone who touched it. Kastor became obsessed, stole it, and studied it in secret - and in time he began to hear whispers, distant voices promising answers if only he kept searching.
He left the village and wandered, breaking into libraries and sages’ towers for knowledge he could not pay for and that none would share, for fear the object was cursed. He found that he valued the lives of others far less than the answers he sought. At last he understood the hourglass: it was an ancient relic that bound him to Kronos, lord of the Titans and of time, imprisoned in Tartarus - and the voices that had kept him company through his loneliest nights had been Kronos’s all along. Kronos promised Kastor every answer he hungered for, and total mastery over time, if only Kastor could free him.
Kastor agreed without hesitation, and has since chased his master’s release through the darkest of rites - sacking temples of the gods of knowledge and the repositories of the Recollectors for lore and relics, once burning so thoroughly behind him that the whole city of Fyron went up in flames. He has tortured and murdered, extorted and stolen, sacrificed people and dominated the minds of passers-by - yet still the gates of Tartarus hold. Followers of the Titan have begun to trail after him, calling themselves the Brotherhood of Time, and the crimes of his faith have begun to draw hunters; he eludes them with ease. But time keeps passing, and the way to Kronos’s freedom does not seem to draw any nearer.
Personality
Kastor is, above all, a man starved for knowledge, and will do anything to deepen it. He sees himself as Kronos’s chosen and highest servant, which lends him an air of superiority. He believes Kronos’s release will usher in a new age - but cares chiefly for the knowledge and power it will bring him. The one thing that gives him pause is the risk of losing a piece of lore he could never regain otherwise. He is a true fanatic, blindly loyal, prone to going out of his way to magnify Kronos’s name even when it harms his own immediate aims - much of his zeal the product of years of the Titan whispering in his ear and stoking his extremity, a thing of which Kastor himself remains unaware.
