Mithradaitis VI

Mithradaitis VI first won fame as a young soldier in the monarchy’s ranks, ending Mekarto’s civil war by slaying the charismatic rebel leader Cyrus in a duel many took to be divinely guided. Though he had fought for the crown, he understood the rebels’ grievances were just, and he came to the throne in 1225 determined to heal the wounded realm.

He was as much scholar as king. Between the war’s end and his coronation he immersed himself in alchemy and medicine, and his court became a magnet for researchers from across the world. He devoted himself to a great dream - the Panacea, a universal cure for all disease - and, having survived a venomous snakebite in his youth, made himself so immune to poisons that he would famously taste any dish set before him without fear.

The Fall of Swadia

In 1268 the Lexallian Republic launched its great campaign of conquest. Mithradaitis prepared as best he could, but thirty years of civil war had left their mark. In 1275 the armies of Ostagar Worldshaper invaded; the disciplined, numerous Lexallians, with their battle-mages, won battle after battle. Raven fell almost at once, and the road carved south from it earned the name “the Road of Swords.” By 1278 the enemy held the Jyoti lead mines - Swadia’s purse, never before taken, now turned against it. With his loyal general Atraxias, Mithradaitis fought a bitter defense of every field, until only besieged Kios itself remained. He was the last king of Swadia.
