The Boundless Jungle is a vast, ancient tropical wilderness in Clairnia, deep and trackless enough to swallow whole expeditions without a trace. Those who delve too far into its dense canopy have a way of becoming hopelessly lost.
History and Significance
For hundreds of years, the Boundless Jungle has remained an untamed frontier. Underneath its thick vines and massive roots lie forgotten ancient ruins and hidden temples, remnants of unnamed civilizations that once tried to tame the wild. Although many attempts have been made to conquer the territory, the jungle remains firmly unyielding. Parts of it lie within the claimed borders of House Terra, but many other noble houses have laid tentative claim to its fringes, always struggling to expand their reach against the persistent overgrowth.
Inhabitants
The jungle is home to a staggering diversity of life. The deepest sections are haunted by monstrous ape-like creatures that aggressively defend their territory from outsiders. Dispersed among the flora are communities of various native tribes who know the land intimately. Prominent among them are the peaceful Loxodon herds, agile Tabaxi hunters, and stealthy Bugbear enclaves.
Corian Ballard and the Hidden Monks
The Boundless Jungle contains deep secrets. Hidden somewhere in its remotest green depths is a magical shrine of the monks of Oma Desala. In 1533, the archaeologist Corian Ballard was gravely wounded by the monstrous ape-like creatures and nearly died. He was saved by Oma Desala’s monks, who brought him to their sanctuary. The monks introduced him to spiritual practices and profound healing magic that could cure lifelong ailments. Drawn by the rich cultural variety, Corian formally returned a few years later, spending three full years (1536–1538) living among the Loxodons, Tabaxi, and Bugbears to learn their cultures and tongues.
