Bloodline Twisted Races Homeland The jungles and savanna of Clairnia Society Matriarchal; ancestor-worshipping Language Common, Trunkodon
“When you meet a Loxodon, remember this: they never forget, but they also never turn you away. Their hearts are as large as their bodies, and they carry the weight of their ancestors with every step.”
- Dimbaal Noretso Grim, Old Storyteller
The Loxodons are towering, elephantine people of the deep jungle and vast savanna of Clairnia - known for their wisdom, their serene nature, and their fierce devotion to ancestor worship.
Description
A Loxodon’s mind is a fortress of memory. They possess incredible recall - not only of their own lives but of the histories of their ancestors, which they treat as part of their own identity - passed down through oral tradition and sacred rite. This connection to the past is the cornerstone of their culture, shaping every decision and relationship.
Society
Loxodon society is matriarchal: elder matriarchs guide their people not by physical might but by the depth of their understanding and the clarity of their memories. The Loxodons are slow to anger, cautious in deliberation, and unyielding in their values.
Culture
Religion
Central to Loxodon life is ancestor worship: they see death not as an end but a transition, and hold that the spirits of their forebears linger to guide the living through dreams and omens. Shrines and festivals to the ancestors are everywhere - but their faith has not gone unchallenged. Missionaries of the One God have long pressed them toward monotheism, with enough success (especially among the enslaved and isolated) to divide their once-unified clerical caste between traditionalists and converts.
Language
Loxodons speak Common and Trunkodon, the memory-laden ancestral tongue they carried out of the Boundless Jungle.
Law and Justice
A Life of Bondage
Their great size and strength have made Loxodons prime targets for enslavement - whole tribes subjugated for labor in construction and farming, or sent to delve the Boundless Jungle for treasures. Yet they rarely rebel violently; they endure, preserving their traditions through secret ceremonies, songs, and stories, resisting the erasure of their culture even as their bodies are exploited.
History
By nature hospitable and slow to judge, the Loxodons welcome respectful strangers - an openness outsiders have often abused to infiltrate and exploit them. When the War of Horrors rocked the world, the Loxodons debated long before sending warriors and clerics to join the war effort, earning the rare and previously little-known people some hard-won respect beyond Clairnia.
Origins
Loxodons are counted among the Twisted Races that emerged after The Collapse.
