Biography
Dolerus was the eldest child of the baker Abranos, six years older than his brother Tristis and much adored by their little sister Alena, who followed him everywhere with wide, worshipful eyes. A week after their mother died of the Blue Eyes, Dolerus vanished - having crept into their parents’ room by night to take the family’s hidden savings before running off to join a travelling circus bound for the never-ending carnival. His father saw him go and could not bring himself to stop his firstborn. His leaving broke Alena’s heart, and the truth of his theft, kept secret for years, would later become a weapon his brother used to wound her.
