Aldor Thaned is the serious, protective de facto leader of The Merry Bunch - a human raised among the tengu, and the prophesied Rising Phoenix.

Biography

Born in 1509 in the slopes near Aegheimr, Aldor never met his father, who was conscripted for the War of Horrors and never returned. His mother Kari, a gifted seamstress, raised him with warmth - until a pack of banderhobbs raided the village, and the fear-eating creatures forced him, at ten, to watch his own mother devoured. A tengu hunting party slew the banderhobbs and freed the survivors; a mated couple, Pacham and Edena, noted the boy was born under the Rising Phoenix and - strangely for tengu - adopted him. Raised an outsider among the winged, he became an older brother to Tikal, and when their parents died he convinced Tikal to go adventuring in search of a way to extend his brother’s life.

Personality

He is grave and focused, fiercely protective of his group and of Tikal above all; a level-headed leader who listens before acting. He is secretly in love with Nessa but believes himself beneath her - and, since the prophecy, he flees his own fate, warding himself even against dreams.
