Mùchén is a cleric of Freya and one of the fiercest, most protective members of Gilded Requiem - a man of passion and control who guards a wounded heart behind a wall of reserve and sarcasm.
Biography
Mùchén was born and raised in Lavalansby, a hard northern village about a day’s walk south of Coldheart, amid the constant struggle against monsters and the elements. His father died early to the perils beyond the village walls, and his mother - a beacon of love and strength - raised him alone, instilling in him survival, loyalty, and a moral compass he credits to her to this day. His very name, in a northern dialect, means to bathe in the sun, moon, or stars; she found strength during his birth by gazing at the stars, and so the night sky became, ever after, his reminder that he was once truly and deeply loved.
His mother died when he was seventeen, leaving him alone. As a young man he fell into a relationship with a respected archpriest of Freya that turned abusive; he never speaks of what he endured, only that leaving the North was an act of true bravery. Alone and scarred, he returned to Freya himself, embracing her worship through the Lust domain - a faith that became both shield and sword. He conceives of his power not as a small light to be caged but as a bonfire to be directed, a “controlled chaos” he wrestles with constantly, “strangling” his instincts before they can overwhelm him.
His path led him to the mercenary life and, at last, to Gilded Requiem, the family he protects fiercely. Among them he found a special connection with the bugbear Zholk, whose strength and kindness stirred something deep in him. He loves Zholk - though he will scarcely admit it aloud - but his devotion to Freya, his past wounds, and a buried belief that he is unworthy of love keep him from pursuing it, locking the two in a painful dance of yearning and rejection that he cannot bring himself to end.
