Tikal is a tengu of The Merry Bunch - the adoptive younger brother of Aldor, and his self-appointed steel shield.
Biography
Tikal was born to Pacham and Edena on a beautiful evening at the beginning of summer, beneath the sign of Gagana. One of his earliest memories is of his wingless brother crouching beside his bed and whispering, “I will always protect you, my brother. Always.” After learning about Aldor’s childhood, Tikal decided the truth ran the other way: it was his duty to shield Aldor from an uncaring world.
The brothers trained together for three years before their adulthood rites, each helping the other overcome his weaknesses. During the ceremony Tikal first manifested the Talons of Gagana and Phoenix, which he understood as one talon for himself and one for his brother. In the quiet years that followed, he remained with his family despite yearning for freedom, adventure, and the wider sky. When their parents died and Aldor proposed a quest for immortality and renown, Tikal accepted out of loyalty and concern for his brother. Gagana is said to have extended divine protection to his chosen tengu.
Personality and Relationships
Tikal is friendly, trusting, and quick to joke when tension rises. He feels responsible for those he loves, daydreams often, and looks up to Aldor while quietly believing that he should be the more responsible brother.
Nessa is a good friend, and Tikal recognizes the unspoken affection between her and Aldor. He treats Boti as an aunt. He deeply admires Filli and readily invokes her authority as co-leader when Aldor becomes overprotective; he may be attracted to her without yet recognizing it.
