Nessa Gorin

Nessa Gorin is a guarded, gifted sorceress of The Merry Bunch - once-wealthy, now self-made, and quietly in love with Aldor.

Biography

Nessa grew up in luxury on her father’s vineyard estate, with a grand balcony overlooking fields that stretched to the horizon and every reasonable wish fulfilled. Yet she was never truly happy, forever forcing the smiles and enthusiasm expected of her. Even numerous entertaining suitors could not touch the persistent discontent.

When a red storm destroyed the vineyards, Nessa fell from comfort to begging and selling herself for food and shelter. She grieved for her father’s life’s work and her own lost security, but the deeper sadness remained unchanged. Her father, broken by the loss and by what his daughter endured, sickened and eventually refused even temple treatment. On the night he died, Nessa’s uncontrolled and frightening magic awakened, and she fled alone into the world.

The Merry Bunch found her disoriented and afraid and took her in without demanding anything from her. Their kindness gradually wore down her defenses, giving her friends for the first time. In 1537 she left in the middle of the night with only a letter, ashamed that her magical knowledge and power lagged behind the others despite Aldor and Filli’s objections. While attempting to enter a Recollectors archive to study the arcane, she met Talna of the Juggernaut Three, who recognized her fierce desire to learn and took her as an apprentice. After two years of training, Nessa returned in 1539 and saved the group at the Battle of Three Pillars, now formidable, confident, and sure of her craft. Aldor remains somewhat hurt by her departure.

Appearance and Personality

Nessa has dark, lush hair flowing down her back, golden eyes, and a striking figure. She is intelligent without displaying it and can seem haughty or distant toward anyone who has not shown that they want nothing from her. Forming connections remains difficult for her.

She is in love with Aldor but fears he will never see her that way. She regards Tikal as a good friend, Boti as a mother, and Filli as a close sister.
