The Shadowfell

Every coin has two sides, and just as the vibrant Feywyld is a mirror of bright color and ceaseless creation, the Shadowfell is its shadowed opposite - a realm of cold darkness where ash falls from the sky and color drains to muted grey. It is the dark twin of the fey realm, and where the Feywyld overflows with life, the Shadowfell leans always toward decay and the precipice of death.

Ruler

The Shadowfell answers to the enigmatic Lord of Spiders, a shadowy being whose goals and desires are a mystery even to his own servants. His agents spread across the prime material plane in pursuit of ends none of them can quite name, and it is from their dealings with the world that the Descathi arose.

Touched Peoples

The Descathi are the Shadowfell’s mark upon the mortal world - a shadowy mirror of the feyborn Dendulra. Their grey eyes, ash-flecked skin, and pull toward the precipice all betray the realm’s influence, and they speak Stygian, the lie-capable corruption of fey Sylvan that is the tongue of shadow creatures.

Cosmology

Like the Feywyld, the Shadowfell is a mirror plane - a near-twin of the normal planar order that works by its own rules. The two are natural opposites, and some hold that the seasonal courts of the fey, especially a deathless Winter Court, may share history with the shadowed realm; how much the two planes have in common remains a matter of debate.
