Races of the New World
Far across the arctic sea that divides the old world from the new lies a continent of peoples wholly apart from the bloodlines of the Empire. Discovered by the explorer Elizabeth and chronicled by Dothus Petri, Emissary to the New World, these beastfolk are not Twisted Races nor Half Bloods, but native peoples of their own land - each with its own ancestral tongue, bound loosely together by the shared trade pidgin of Beastspeech.
The first old-world foothold on the continent is the settlement of Acadia, whose relations with the surrounding beastfolk range from daily trade to wary nonviolence pacts to open danger in the deep swamps.
The Peoples
| People | Nature |
|---|---|
| Canidae | Wolf-folk; roaming apex pack-hunters |
| Caprini | Goat-folk; sheltered village farmers |
| Bejorn | Bear-folk (Ursine); fierce tribal warriors |
| Reepicheep | Mouse-folk; communal keepers of lore |
| Felixpes | Rabbit-folk; cautious and lucky |
| Grung | Frog-folk; poisonous swamp casteborn |
| Lizardfolk | Watchful, reclusive swamp-dwellers |
| Ludai | Slug-folk; secretive mollusk farmers |
| Thanoi | Walrus-folk; tireless arctic builders |
| Leonin | Lion-folk; proud tribal warriors |
Other beastfolk are recorded in the explorers’ notes but not yet detailed - the monkey-like Vanara, the Rhinox, and the fox- and badger-kin Vulpini among them.
Language
Almost every people of the New World speaks its own ancestral tongue alongside Beastspeech, the broad-but-shallow trade pidgin that lets otherwise isolated peoples bargain, parley, and warn one another. Few speak the Common of the old world.
