Canidae

“First mistaken for werewolves roaming freely in the wild, the canidae are the ultimate survivalists of the new world.”

  • Dothus Petri, Emissary to the New World

The Canidae are wolf-folk of the New World, spread across the continent in close familial packs. Born hunters and consummate survivalists, they sit at the top of the food chain in their territories - and travelers crossing a canidae’s marked land do so with caution.

Society

Familial Packs

Canidae live in packs usually made of two parents, juveniles, and younglings, though larger packs are seen on rare occasions. When a canidae reaches its teenage years, it leaves the family to roam and adventure, gaining experience and eventually forming a pack of its own. They mark their territory, and packs will not cross another’s borders without dire reason. Raised in the wilds, canidae often struggle with the social norms of cities and feel badly out of place in crowded, settled places.

Born Hunters

Canidae excel as hunters and are as deadly in a fight as on a hunt. Despite their aggression, they are careful never to over-hunt an area or disrupt the natural order - some say out of respect for nature, others simply to ensure the pack can return to hunt the same grounds years later.

Appearance

Canidae stand six to seven feet tall, broad-shouldered and long-legged. Their fur color reflects the territory they grew up in - white or grey in arctic lands, sandy brown or rust-red in the deserts - granting natural camouflage.

Culture

Language

Canidae speak Canidae and Beastspeech, the shared trade tongue of the New World’s beastfolk.
