History & Lore
Arashez sits at the foot of Mount Sinope, astride the great spice, silk, and sword road that runs from Jaknia to the Lexalian Republic - squarely at its midpoint, and overlooking the land in every direction. Its defining wonder is the Arches of Arashez: six colossal stone arches, a kilometre wide and some two high, of uncertain origin - perhaps a relic of the Empire - upon which a military fort was raised, for from them no one crosses this stretch of the Hub unseen.
General Information
The town is known for its many inns, among them the Great Tree (kept by a woman of ninety), the Anvil, the Ancient Lion, the River of Life, and the Brew Spring - whose keeper, the story goes, once set out to fetch more ale from the spring and never came back. It was also the site of a grim mystery: at an inn called the Promised Land, every guest was killed during a storm by means no one could explain, and only the innkeeper, Vitarik, lived.
Etymology
Though the origin of the name comes from the word “arches” in the old tongue. The town has many nicknames - “The True Middle”, “The Crossroad”, and so on.

Military Presence
Arashez is a highly important military outpost, thanks to the Grand Arches surrounding it. At all times, a military force of 1000 comprised of 250 people from each country in the accords is stationed in the town, manning the arches and protecting the area. The forces act independently from the town itself and their presence often earn Arashez the nickname of the “safest town in the world”.

The Grand Arches
The city of Arashez is famous for its six giant, stone made arches, each around a kilometer in width and two in height. The arches overlap each other and can be seen from afar, though their white and grey texture is often mixed with that of the Mount Synope for those coming from the south and east. The arches’ original purpose is unknown, and their current use is mainly by armed forces - it is often said, “They who control the arches control the Hub”. Stairs have been carved into the stones and small military outposts have been constructed on top of it, giving those who control it a clear view over the lands from Teremisis to Verra, with a good view over the Sarranid Plains. Since the road from the north goes around Synope, the arches also prevent passage from the north to go unnoticed.
