Overview

Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages in the world, and it is often used in the study of magic - for some of the greatest mages, like Netz the Transmuter and Arani the Evoker, were taught their craft by ancient dragons. It sounds harsh to most other creatures, full of hard consonants and sibilants, and is spoken chiefly by dragons, dragonborn, and kobolds.

Phonology & Script

Draconic is famed for its harshness - a tongue of hard consonants and sibilants that grates on most non-draconic ears. Its antiquity and its ties to magic make it a favoured language of arcane study and inscription.

• Dragons - the language is native to them, and a dragon’s true name is often Draconic.
• Dragonborn - who speak it as a birthright of their draconic heritage.
• Kobolds - said to carry it from their draconic origin.
• Mages - who learn it for the study and inscription of magic.
