Lakshmi is the Goddess of Luck - one of the Nine Old Gods (the Brahman) who ruled in the days of the old Empire and lingered, diminished, after its Collapse. Hers is the domain of fortune in both its faces, the good and the bad alike.
Divine Domain
Lakshmi governs luck, both good and bad - not as twin forces to be sorted into blessing and curse, but as a single turning wheel. Her teaching holds that nothing is ever truly a mistake, only an opportunity for growth, and that the weight of a life lies not in the fortune dealt to it but in the choices made in answer. To her faithful, even bad luck is a gift waiting to be turned.
Worshippers & Cults
Like the other Old Gods, Lakshmi is worshipped only by a small and quiet number - the “monks of old,” who commune with their distant gods through meditation rather than speech, and who gather in monasteries governed by intricate hierarchies and guarded by the seven holy warriors called avatars. Lakshmi’s monasteries take in the broken and the unlucky; there the wretched are taught the weight of their choices, and a martial discipline that turns bad luck into a weapon - failure and misfortune folded back into strength. It was such a monastery, and such a brother of her order, that pulled a half-dead goblin out of the gutter and gave her a reason to live.
History
When the old Empire fell in the Collapse, the Old Gods were judged by the present pantheons to be no threat to the world, and were permitted to keep their few followers. Lakshmi, like her kin, keeps her distance from mortals still.
