Half-Ogre

“Ogres - huge, fearsome creatures of meek intelligence that roam the countryside. Every so often, half-ogres are born. Not all are the results of tragedy - not all ogres are evil - but many are, and are born into a life of cruelty and sadness. They are a strong-willed bunch, growing up different but with strength running in their blood.”

  • Dimbaal Noretso Grim, Old Storyteller

Half-ogres carry the blood of ogres in a mortal frame. Some are born of tragedy and some are not, but nearly all grow up marked as different - strong-willed children with great strength and a heritage the world rarely lets them forget.

Shunned by Society

To many Children, half-ogres are a symbol of pain, whether or not that is fair. They find it hard to integrate into a society that both fears and pities them, and can often only find work where raw strength and an aggressive nature are explicitly wanted.

Appearance

Half-ogres grow to around eight feet tall - some rumored to reach nine - with reddish-tinted skin and faces that often bear a beastial cast: thick tusks for teeth and broad noses.

Society

Half-ogres inherit their ancestors’ aggressive nature, and the hardships of their lives push many to start fighting at a very early age - finding places away from adult eyes for vicious, sometimes lethal bouts. To them this is not cruelty but an important declaration of strength, a way of being seen and reckoned with in a world that would rather look away.

Culture

Language

Half-ogres speak Common and Jötunn - the giant-blooded tongue they share with ogres, firbolgs, and goliaths.

History
