Cult of the Four Seasons
Cult of the Four Seasons
Type Elemental cult Seat The island of Maridor Founder Nuoda, a marid Creed Life is water
Maridor is a small island near the centre of the continent, some four days’ walk from Teremisis. It is the seat of a powerful marid named Nuoda, who raised upon the island a cult of genasi.
Tenets
The cult holds many beliefs, chief among them that life is water:
- Water changes shape and moves, but is never destroyed. There is no such thing as death - even the hottest fire only turns water to vapour.
- The closer one is to water, the more exalted one is. People are made of water, and so must be respected; purer beings, such as water genasi, are accorded greater honour, while those nearer to other elements - genasi of other kinds, dragonborn, dragons, and the like - are accorded less.
- The cult keeps a measure of isolation from the outer world. Within its bounds it uses no fire, and it divides property by labour and by purity - the closer to water, the purer.
Nuoda uses her own magic to provide for some of the islanders’ needs, and many live wholly by her ideology: to be water - always moving, dangerous when disrespected yet kind, flowing around hard problems but never ceasing to wear away at them, for still waters run deep.
