The College of Jesters is a bardic college born of a king’s snub - today famous across Thelemar for its members’ dazzling breadth of skills, their talent in entertainment, and their trademark multicolored cloaks.

History

When Edmund Fon Umerits, the first king of Clairnia, rose to power, he approached the various bard colleges seeking to requisition a royal bard for his court. One after another they refused him - some objecting to his rule, others to the very idea of being bound to a royal court. Rebuffed, Edmund took matters into his own hands, and within a year a new college was born: one devoted to providing the court with entertainment through music, acrobatics, wit, and jest.

Culture

Jesters prize versatility above all, blending performance, agility, and sharp-tongued cleverness into a single craft. Their multicolored cloaks are recognized in courts and on roads alike, and the oldest among them still invoke the ancient right of Jester’s Privilege - the license to speak truths no other dares.
