The Warders

The Warders are stalwart warriors who use a magical bond to protect another - most often seen in the employ of noble houses and traveling mages, sworn to a single charge whose life becomes their own.

Origin

It is said the first warder was a woman named Teadra, tasked with protecting the daughter and heir of House Hollow in Clairnia on a journey to the oracle of Difloa. The bond between protector and charge grew so strong over their travels that magic itself mixed into it - and from that first bond came the warders as they are known today.

The Bond

A warder forms a lasting magical bond with a willing charge: an empathic link through which each feels the other’s health and feelings, a shared sense of one another’s location, and a strength that steadies the warder at their charge’s side. The bond is severed only by death - and when a warder’s charge dies, the breaking of that bond carries a terrible toll on the mind.
