The Holy Company

The Holy Company, better known as the Inquisition, is an elite order of warriors raised to hunt down rogue mages and stamp out the spread of unchecked arcana - first across the Holy Theocracy of Olympus, and eventually throughout the world.

History

During the War of Horrors, a movement rose to dominance in the Theocracy led by Isandro Íroas, who pointed at magic as the source of all the world’s suffering - from The Collapse to the creation of the horrors to the war itself. Íroas held that there was only one solution: the complete suppression of all magic not given by the gods, for only the gods could be trusted with such power and its distribution.

The movement swept Íroas to power as the new Rex, and he made good on his promise by founding the Holy Company - an elite, trained organization of warriors meant to bring down rogue mages and halt the spread of unchecked arcana throughout the Theocracy, and in time across the whole world.

Tenets

The paladins and warriors of the Inquisition hold that magic can be both a terrible curse and a beautiful gift of the gods, and that it falls to them to prevent the former and encourage the latter:

  • Purge the Unsanctioned Arcana - seek out and eliminate all magic not sanctioned by the gods.
  • Resist Temptation - let faith and resolve shelter against the lure of forbidden power.
  • Guard the Faithful - protect the innocent from apostate wizards and supernatural abominations, standing as a breakwater against the tide of arcane chaos.
