The Dustveins were four members of a violent cult who entered Raven’s contest for the Ring of Unshackled Desire. Their doctrine held that death is necessary to preserve the balance of the world and that they personally maintained that balance by killing.

Their presence at the contest caused widespread anxiety. Several people died in matches against them, but the Dustveins had broken no tournament rule and were not suspected of any outside crime, leaving the organisers with no grounds to remove them.

The Dustveins met the Faithful Companions in the quarter-final. Because surrendering to them could not be assumed safe, Dranan Horbit hesitated to take that risk, but the Ring seemed too close to abandon. When he eventually attempted to surrender and could not, the entity inside him seized control and killed all four Dustveins.

Philosophy

The Dustveins treated death as a positive and necessary force in the world’s equilibrium. Murder was not merely permitted by their doctrine; it was the means by which they believed they fulfilled their obligation to balance life.
